Laithwaite's Wine has appointed Averys buying director Emma Roberts to the newly created role of group fine wine director.

Roberts, who has been with Averys - which is owned by Laithwaite's parent company Direct Wines - for 15 years, is charged with developing fine wine and Champagne ranges for the Direct Wines group worldwide, as well as managing en primeur campaigns. She will split her time between Averys Bristol offices and Laithwaite's headquarters in Theale, Reading.

Averys buyer Jennie Perry has been promoted to head wine buyer, responsible for the development of its wine portfolio, as well merchandising, marketing, stock and new business.

Justin Howard Sneyd MW, global wine director, said: "Even in this age of austerity customers are willing to spend money to treat themselves to a bottle of interesting wine. For this reason we are keen to develop our fine wines range."

The group is planning to open a pop-up shop in London's Borough Market on July 9, as its flagship store the Arch at Vinopolis will be closed during the Olympics. Vinopolis will be occupied by official Olympic sponsors in that time.

The pop-up shop will be located next to Southwark Cathedral just a short distance from the permanent site.

Tony Laithwaite, chairman, said: "I'm so glad we'll be able to keep serving our customers around Borough Market in a smashing pop-up shop beside Southwark Cathedral, whilst our Arch is doing Olympic duty during July and August."

The pop-up shop will be open until August 19th when Laithwaite's will re-open The Arch with an improved customer experience .

The pop-up shop will be located at 1 Cathedral Street, Borough Market, London.
