The live online De Bortoli launch of its BellaRiva range of wines yesterday, saw 120 unique viewers between its two virtual tastings.
The invite only virtual tastings hosted by winemaker Steve Webber and winery owner Lianne De Bortoli consisted of an invite only Australian consumer one and UK press tasting.
Figures show 62 sign-ins for the consumer U-stream tasting that included a group from the University of Melbourne and 27 in the UK, plus 966 tweets.
The aim was to take an innovative view to launching its BellaRiva King Valley Pinot Grigio/Vermentino and Merlot/Sangiovese.
It also aimed to highlight De Bortoli's and Webber's commitment in embracing social media to better interact with consumers - both of the wines have a QR code on the back label which once scanned with a smart-phone the user will be taken to a tasting video with Steve Webber.
"Apart from a few technical hitches, both our tastings went extremely well," said De Bortoli. "The fact that so many people approached the tasting so enthusiastically was a real highlight for us.
"And many people decided to make a party of it by inviting a few mates over for a relaxing tasting in the comfort of their own homes.
"Not often that you can have the winemaker in your own kitchen doing a tasting for you."
