Tanqueray looks to the past to inspire limited edition Bloomsbury gin launch

Published:  16 September, 2015

Diageo Reserve has introduced a limited edition version of Tanqueray gin based on a 19th century recipe from the company's archives.

The name of Tanqueray Bloomsbury gin is a nod to the time when the Tanqueray distillery was located in the central London district later famed for its literary links.

The 47.3% abv gin is strong in juniper flavour with "clear notes of cassia bark", the company said.

The bottle features a signature emblem with the initials of Charles Waugh Tanqueray who first came up with the recipe in 1880.

Previous limited edition releases have included Tanqueray Malacca in 2013 and Tanqueray Old Tom in 2014.

The new gin is on-shelf this month with an rrp of £41.

Current master distiller Tom Nichol, who came up with the modern day take, said: "I wanted to make something that was completely different from our other limited editions and with this gin I do feel we have achieved that.

"It is very inspirational to work with an original Tanqueray family recipe and for it to taste this good."

To mark the launch, Diageo Reserve has teamed up with the Bloomsbury hotel in London to create a Bloomsbury gin-infused menu and a series of cocktail masterclasses, which will run for a limited time from October.
