COX FOR CHILE

Michael Cox, the managing director of Negociants UK for the past 12 years, is to head up the new Wines of Chile UK office. Cox told Harpers that the Wines of Chile office will open in mid-May and that he will have a budget of 1 million. The priority is to gain better awareness for Chilean wines, particularly in the premium sector. With approximately 6% of the sub-5 category, Cox and his yet-to-be-announced team need to show that Chile produces more than entry-level wines. Ricardo Letelier, Wines of Chile's general manager, said: This is a critical phase in the development of Chilean wine in the UK and Michael's experience in the trade makes him the ideal choice to consolidate the successes of the past ten years.' Cox said: There is a greater diversity of styles and a higher than ever level of premium quality wines being produced in Chile nowadays and they deserve a wider audience.'
