Hotel du Vin is opening its first London site ? Bistro du Vin will open in Clerkenwell in April.
The new site will be staffed by trainee sommelier Danielle Meenagh, one of the winners of BBC Two's Michel Roux's Service programme.
The bistro will be housed in a renovated Victorian property which once housed The Eastside Inn on St John Street.
As with Hotel du Vin, the emphasis will be on locally-sourced seasonal produce from a 30 miles radius, with menus by Keith Shearer and Malmaison London's Chef John Woodward. The bistro will serve simple dishes, and the 'van' du Vin will drive fresh meat from neighbouring Smithfield market to the bistro's butcher, who is on show in the restaurant through a window. A second window showcases the bistro's 500-bin wine cellar.
There will be a 30-cover long pewter-topped dining bar, outdoor terrace and a glass walled chef's table in between the kitchen and the butchers. Downstairs there is a 14-seater private dining room.
The Bistro will be open from early morning until 3am.
