MW SCHOLARSHIPS

Published:  23 July, 2008

Sainsbury's has chosen Katherine Richardson, an assistant buyer at Domaine Direct, as its second sponsored Master of Wine (MW) student. Sainsbury's launched its MW sponsorship scheme in autumn 2001 (Harpers' Neil Beckett was the first recipient). The scholarship is open to MW students commencing their second year of the course and intending to sit the exam the following year. The award is a fund of up to 2,500, which the student can use for travel, tastings and books to aid his/her studies. There is also the opportunity to draw on the commercial acumen of the Sainsbury's buying team and to gain experience of marketing, technical and retail issues. The IMW and Marne & Champagne Diffusion have announced the recipients of the second year MW student scholarships - Waitrose's Julia Harding, Tim Marson, assistant branch manager of The Winery, Maida Vale, and Richard James, a freelance writer and educator. Each receives 1,500 from MCD.
