RETAIL ROUND-UP - MAJESTIC SET TO OPEN SIX NEW SITES

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Jack Hibberd

Majestic Wine Warehouses' steady expansion is set to continue with six stores planned for the next 12 months, according to chief executive Tim How. The Camberley store will be the first to open, on 15 November, with two more expected in the first quarter of 2003. How could not confirm locations for the next few premises, but told Harpers: We'd like another store in Edinburgh and we are also looking at West Aberdeen.' Majestic opened its 100th store in Dorchester this May, and has since added to the group. We have good coverage of the UK,' said How, and now we are trying to fill in the gaps. We think there is potential for 150 stores before we reach saturation.' London, the centre of the group's operations, with 31 stores, still has massive potential but the problem with London is finding sites,' said How. We need space for a warehouse and a car park, but this kind of property isn't always available.' Majestic's next set of accounts is to be released on 18 November, with a repeat of the strong results released in April's annual report expected. How also praised his staff, after four employees were honoured at last week's WSET Awards. Most of them are graduates and they stay with us for four years on average, way above the retail norm.'
