The drinks industry is celebrating this afternoon after the new Coalition government's budget revealed there would be no immediate increase in alcohol duties.
There had been fears that the Chancellor, George Osborne, would add a further 5% duty, but instead he has given the industry a reprieve.
He has, however, said the government will look again at duty levels in the autumn and in particular those drinks associated with encouraging binge drinking.
He also confirmed that the 10% increase in cider duties announced in the previous government's budget would be reversed by the end of the month.
There was, however, some bad news for the sector with the expected increase in VAT to 20%.
Industry reaction to come.
