The winners of the 23rd Annual Chablis Wine Awards have been announced following the judging of over 300 wines from four appellations to reward the best wines of the 2006 and 2007 harvests.

The event, hosted by the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB) last weekend, saw a jury of 75 wine tasters from France and Europe, including oenologists, sommeliers, restaurateurs, technicians and independent wine growers.

2007 vintages in the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru appellations were entered this year,
while 2006 harvests were presented for the Chablis Grand Cru appellation.

Judges found the 2006 Chablis Grand a particularly good vintage offering rounded wines. Arnaud Valour of Chablis wines said: "For the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru, the 2007 harvest was a more traditional, classical crop. Wines were bright and vivacious, with strong mineral notes.

The jurors were split into 20 wine tasting groups responsible for selecting the top three wines from around 15 wines. These top wines were then tasted a second time by a super-jury that selected the winners.
