The co-operative winery of Yecla has appointed NWWS International Wine Consultants to provide winemaking consultancy services, starting with the 2002 vintage. The co-op, which trades under the name La Purisima, is the largest winery in the Yecla region, with 4,100 hectares of vines producing red, white and ros DO wines. Much of the wine is currently sold in bulk, and NWWS will be working with the co-op's winemaking team to develop new ranges of high-quality, good-value wines to be sold in bottle. The red and ros wines are made mainly from Monastrell and Tempranillo, while the whites are based on Macabeo and Airen. Daniel Gimenez, part of the NWWS winemaking team, will lead the project and will be present at the co-op full-time during the ten-week vintage period. We are very much looking forward to working together with the excellent technical team at Yecla to produce some superb wines at great prices,' said NWWS director, David Rowe. The quality of the fruit is already very high and, just as important, the people at Yecla are open to new ideas and modern techniques.'
