UK multiple retailer Tesco has added a five new wines to its Finest range to target the summer-drinking market. The wines, four white and one red, are on shelf from today.
The wines include an English White 2018, which is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Bacchus and Chardonnay from Kent’s Hush Heath winery, and a Chilean Aromático 2018, blended from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Viognier.
The other whites added to the range are a Mosel Riesling 2018 and a Chablis 2017.
The single new red is a South African Cinsault 2018.
The wines are priced at between £7 and £12 with ABVs ranging from 11.5% to 12.5% for the whites and 13% for the red.
Four of the five wines added to the range are labelled as vegan. Vegetarian and vegan wines are a growth category in both the UK off- and on-trade, with the market estimated to have a value in excess of £1.5 billion.
Tesco own-label wines won four gold medals at the recent International Wine Challenge 2019 awards. The retailer also won the IWC’s Amarone Trophy for its Cantina Valpantena’s Tesco Finest Amarone 2015.
