Teams at Marston’s Rotisserie outlets throughout the UK were called on recently to submit their ideas for a bespoke gin for the pub group.
The result, now available throughout Marston’s Rotisserie venues, is Maharaja Gin, incorporating Makrut lime leaf, sweet orange, cubeb and galangal as botanicals, best served in a G&T with cinnamon bark and red chilli.
The spirit is produced by That Boutique-y Gin Company, who launched the competition to create the company’s new bespoke gin. The best three recipes were distilled, before the final gin was selected. The winning team, from Bure Farm in Bicester, received bottle #1 of Maharaja Gin, as well as a bespoke hip flask for each team member.
“Maharaja Gin is a result of some great teamwork from our Bure Farm staff that they can be really proud of,” said Mark Burns, drinks category management at Marston’s.
The team at That Boutique-y Gin Company have been working on a number of other projects recently, including a range of four perfume-inspired gins created with sensory specialist Lizzie Ostrom of Odette Toilette, entitled Olfactor-y. The range consists of Fresh Rain Gin, with beetroot and edible clay, Dead King Gin distilled with rosemary, honey, myrrh and more, Big Dipper Gin with cocoa and cardamom, and Beware of the Woods, with botanicals such as nutmeg and Icelandic moss.
The new gins will become available through Maverick Drinks from 23 December, following an initial exclusive period with Harvey Nichols.
