Bier Huis, the Ossett-based specialist beer, cider and spirits shop, has added Clover Gin from Belgium to its wholesale section as a UK exclusive.
The gin has a 40% ABV and is available in 50cl for a selling price of £36. It is described as having fresh notes of cardamom, infusions of coriander seeds and black pepper balanced with clover, lavender and juniper berry.
Available now, it was created by three sisters from just outside Antwerp and was showcased to the UK trade this summer with Bier Huis snapping up the rights.
Bier Huis owner David Jones said it was one of the best gins he has ever sampled.
“Once I tried this gin I made it my mission for us to bring it into the UK. It’s one of the best gin’s I have ever sampled. Along with the fantastic bottle design,” he said.
The launch follows gin being hailed as the runaway success of the last minute Christmas booze run, with shoppers buying a huge 45% more in the week before the big day than 2016.
In the week to Saturday 23 December, consumers spent £36m on gin in the top nine supermarkets, putting it far ahead of other popular categories such as sparkling wine – which was down by -1.1% in value – in terms of growth (IRI).
The £36m spent on gin equates to 2.2 million bottles – 636,000 more than in 2016
