London restaurateur and sommelier extraordinaire Xavier Rousset is branching out with his first wine club.
The founder of 28-50 Wine Workshop and Kitchen in Fetter Lane and Blandford Comptoir in Marylebone is launching the new free-to-join service Pinot & Chardo, which is due to span winemaker dinners and tastings, weekly offers on fine wine, wine sourcing and cellar management services.
Pinot & Chardo, named after Rousset’s favourite grape varieties, will also feature tie-ins with his restaurants.
“People would ask me all the time to start something like this,” says Rousset. “I’m happy to finally share my accumulative knowledge of wine and engage with equally passionate wine lovers.”
Rousset made his name by gradually building up a network of wine-orientated restaurants in the city – more recently Cabotte and Mayfair’s Comptoir Café & Wine which opened in April.
He is a former protégé of Gerard Basset and ended up becoming chief sommelier at Basset’s Hotel du Vin’s from 1999 until 2004.
He became a master sommelier in 2002, making him the youngest in the world at the time.
