Published:  23 July, 2008

BORDEAUX - 26th May, 2005 - Calvet, the UK's No.1 Bordeaux brand (off-trade), has launched an organically grown Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon blend under the Calvet Reserve label.

Calvet is proud to present what it believes to be one of the very first branded French wines that is made entirely from organically grown grapes.

Benjamin Tueux, Calvet's winemaker, has always produced wines with the greatest respect for the environment. Calvet is committed to agriculture that is as natural as possible and to minimal intervention at all stages of the winemaking process.

"Experience has shown that the less wines are manipulated, the more their tastes and typical characteristics are conserved." Benjamin Tueux, Winemaker

Calvet Reserve Organic is however fully certified by Ecocert as wine made from organically grown grapes. The fruit comes from a 60ha vineyard of old vines (over 20 years old), which has been farmed using only natural products and methods for more than 20 years.

Guy Anderson Wines, UK agents for Calvet, recognised the growing demand for organic wines and worked closely with the winemaker to bring this wine to the UK.

"Calvet has always been committed to more natural viticulture and winemaking and this Organic wine is the next logical step for them. The market for organic products is increasing and this new wine will introduce Calvet to a new audience of committed organic consumers. This exceptional wine will also appeal to the loyal following of customers who enjoy Calvet's modern Bordeaux style but want to try something new." Guy Anderson

Calvet Reserve Organic is available in Sainsbury's (6.99)
