Cuve Louise Ros Millennium Vintage Released

Published:  18 January, 2007

Champagne Pommery has released its first Cuve Louise Ros of the 21st Century.

Named in honour of Jeanne-Alexandrine Louise Pommery who founded the House in 1858, the 2000 vintage of the Prestige Cuve is now available in the UK through agents Justerini & Brooks at RRP 140 to 160.

Chef de Cave Thierry Casco only makes Cuve Louise Champagnes in years which he considers to be truly exceptional, and Cuve Louise Ros is produced in much smaller quantities than its Blanc counterpart to ensure absolute finesse and elegance.

"At first, there didn't seem to be anything outstanding about the 2000 vintage and we expected the grapes to come in at the normal quality level," explains Gasco. "Once the harvest started it became clear that the expertise and perseverance of our growers was really going to pay off, with the fruit showing a beautiful potential. I particularly wanted to release this wine as a tribute to their hard work."

Pale, delicate salmon pink in colour, Cuve Louise Ros 2000 is a blend of 61% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Avize and Cramant and 39% Pinot Noir from A and Bouzy (including the part vinified as red wine). Grapes were hand-selected for optimum sugar levels by a team of 200 highly trained pickers. To ensure the purity of the wine, only the first run juice was vinified and pressing took place in a traditional square press right by the vineyards to minimize the negative effects of handling and transportation.

Champagne Pommery is part of the Vranken-Pommery Monopole portfolio which is looked after by Percy Fox and Justerini & Brooks in the UK.
