Argentinian specialist Gaucho launches online wine shop

Published:  03 November, 2016

Argentinian restaurant group Gaucho has become the latest outfit to offer its wines online.

Gaucho's Online Wine Shop launches this month, offering shoppers the chance to take home the company's wine exclusives in the UK, which until now have only been available in restaurants.

The wines will be available to purchase nationwide, by the bottle at retail prices, with a minimum order of six bottles.

Gaucho's head wine honcho, Phil Crozier, is known for being the first buyer in 1999 to produce an all-Argentine wine list outside of Argentina.

Since then, Crozier and the group have become a strong presence in the Argentinean category in the UK on-trade, and is now preparing to offer its wines for customers to consume at home and off the premises.

The Online Wine Shop features Latin American signature varietals, including Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Torrontes, Semillon and Pinot Noir from Patagonia.

The website navigation will allow users to select wines by grape variety, producer or type of wine with bottles ranging from £11 to over £100.

Delivery is available throughout the UK.

Production was down to 8.8 million hecolitres in Argentina this year, thanks to El Nino and extreme weather conditions which affected wine production in many South American areas.

The country is holding its own on the world stage however, and is currently at number nine on the list of the top ten countries by value in the UK off-trade in the year to October 2016, demonstrating strong potential for the year ahead in off-premise and online sales.
