Chile's Viña Ventisquero in on-trade push with brand ambassador hire

Leading Chilean winery Viña Ventisquero has appointed sommelier Janina Doyle as its UK brand ambassador.

Doyle will lead the the development of Ventisquero wines in the UK on-trade.  

Doyle joins Ventisquero from Marylebone's Beast restaurant in Marylebone, where she was head sommelier with responsibility for a 250-strong wine list, which included Ventisquero's Pangea.

Her experience also includes five years at Goodmans Steakhouse, where she oversaw staff training in both food and wine.

Doyle is currently studying for her WSET diploma, having achieved a distinction in her Level 3 exam.

She won the Porter & Laker Scholarship in 2014.

Americo Hernandez, key account director at Viña Ventisquero, said: "This is an important appointment for us.  Janina brings a wealth of on-trade experience with her, and will be instrumental in growing the Ventisquero brand in this sector. 

"She also understands the important role that the New World can play in today's new breed of fine-dining restaurants."

Founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial, owner of Chilean food producer AgroSuper, Viña Ventisquero owns vineyards across Chile, including sites in the coastal Maipo, Casablanca, Leyda. and Colchagua.

It also has established a vineyard in northern Chile's Atacama desert, where it produces its Tara range of wines.

Key premium brands for Viña Ventisquero include the Herú Pinot Noir; Pangea Syrah; Verticé, a blend of Carménère and Syrah; and the Grey range, which currently comprises six single-varietal wines together with a Garnacha, Cariñena, Mataro blend.
