Counterfeit alcohol worth £30k seized at Notting Hill Carnival

Published:  02 September, 2015

The Metropolitan Police says officers seized counterfeit and "overproof" alcohol with a street value of around £30,000 at this year's Notting Hill Carnival in west London.

The seizure was made on the corner of Ladbroke Grove and Elgin Crescent on Monday and included over 260 bottles of assorted spirits and Champagne, over 50 cases of beer and cider, and six large containers of rum punch.

The Met said in a statement that "the alcohol has been examined and is believed to be counterfeit and over-proof".

The matter has been referred to Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Trading Standards.
