Vinoteca, the London chain of wine bars and restaurants, is introducing what it claims will be the first Riesling to be sold by the keg in the capital.

It is the latest venture by the group that has already brought bag in the box to the London restaurant scene.

Vinoteca will now be able to serve glasses of "dry, crisp and refreshing" Riesling straight from a 20-litre key keg. The estate Riesling is made in Pfalz by Axel Neiss and according to Vinoteca is "full of zesty pineapple, peach and lime, and is absolutely the ticket on a hot summer's day in the city".

Brett Woonton and Charlie Young, owners and co-founders of Vinoteca, were looking to offer an alternative to Prosecco, which it started offering from the keg last year and believe the "fresh Rieslin fits the bill perfectly".

Axel Neiss' winery is also part of the Fair 'N Green sustainability initiative and will help Vinoteca in its ongoing carbon-cutting policy of importing their own premium bag-in-box wines.

Each  key keg is made of recyclable plastic and cardboard, and saves the use of 26 glass bottles.

Vinoteca's current bag in box range currently includes 2013 Corbieres Blanc from Caves de Rocbere, 2013 Cotes de Provence Rosé from Chateau St Martin and 2011 Montsant Crianca from Cellar el Masroig, all of which it imports directly itself.

The 2013 Estate Riesling Trocken from Axel Neiss is available at all branches of Vinoteca, priced at £3.95 for a 125ml glass, £5.65 for a 175ml glass, or £22.50 for a bottle. It's also available to take-away at £9.95 for a 750ml bottle.
