Merchant House to open specialist gin and rum bar in London

Published:  13 May, 2014

The London Bar Consultants are opening Merchant House in the City, which will stock super premium and rare rums as well as 250 different gins.

The bar, which is set to open on June 11, will also house an area dedicated to spirits masterclasses on the ground floor.

The venue, at 13 Well Court, London, just off Bow Lane, has capacity for 130 guests and its design aims to celebrate London's mercantile history and the spirits and spices that have been brought to the City over the centuries. Aside from cocktails, there will be a deli food menu featuring cheese and meat platters.

Nate Brown, joint founder of the London Bar Consultants, said: "We want the focus at Merchant House to be the guest experience, from the moment they are greeted at the door, to the masterclasses, cocktails and interaction with our bartenders." Lewis Hayes, also co-founder, said: "The fascinating shared trade history of gin and rum is something we wish to celebrate with our guests through an exploration of fine spirits."

The bar will offer the Connoisseurs' Collective, a membership club available for £150 per year. It will include invitations to events, 'both ways drinks' offering a nip of chosen spirit alongside your mixed drink, privilege prices on bar bottle sales and food, plus exclusive rates on event services.

Brown and Hayes co-founded The London Bar Consultants in 2012 and between them have held senior roles at London Cocktail Club, Ronnie Scott's and Riding House Café. In addition to running their own bars, they provide a consultancy service to train staff and design menus.
