Vina Croatia has said it plans to harness its country's entry into the European Union to build a stronger presence in the UK.
The generic wine trade body will hold its fourth annual tasting in the UK this autumn, and intends to use the event a springboard for more promotional activity.
While Croatia's admission to the EU has caused disputes over the rights to the Pro?ek and Teran wine names, Vina Croatia also sees a strong export opportunity via easier trade access to the other 27 EU member states.
The trade body's marketing manager Elvira Belovi? said: This year is an important one for Croatian wine. Our EU membership marks the start of a real commitment to the UK, our key export market, and we are looking to develop our sales here by investing in a sustained generic presence beyond the tasting."
She added that several wineries will exhibit for the first time at this year's tasting, which will take place on October 17 at London's Westbury Hotel.
There will be around 150 wines, and the event will include a masterclass on Plavac Mali, a signature red variety that has become synonymous with the Dalmatia region.
