Austria's most recent DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) the Leithaberg region is now exporting some of its wines to the UK.
Key producers include Esterházy, Erwin Tinhof, Prieler and Nittnaus.
The Nittnaus winery run by Hans and Anita Nittnaus, makes both a Chardonnay/Pinot Blanc blend, which retails for £21, and a red, Blaufränkisch Alte Reben which
has a rrp of £23.50.
Only awarded DAC quality status in 2010, Leithaberg, which is about 50km south east of Vienna in the foothills of the Alps, is the first of Austria's eight DACs that has both a regionally typical red and white wine.
Leithaberg DAC white may only be made using Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and/or Neuburger grapes, while the reds can only be made from Blaufränkisch and must be aged in oak barrels.
