Harper Wells to add Norwich store to online business

Published:  27 June, 2012

Online wine merchant Harper Wells is moving on to the high street when it opens its own shop in Norwich this autumn.

Ed Wells and Dean Harper, who set up their online business from Norwich in 2006, believe the city lacks a quality independent wine merchant and want to fill that gap.

"There are still opportunities for success where bricks and mortar are concerned" said Wells. "Until recently, buying wine in Norwich has meant the supermarket, the supermarket or the supermarket. We've waited a couple of years to find the right site".

The shop will house a range of 600 wines, 50 spirits and a small selection of speciality beers. Half the wines will retail for under £15 per bottle, with a quarter under £10 per bottle. It will also give Harper Wells the chance to host tasting events and have more direct contact with their customers.

"We're right in the shadow of a Waitrose in fact, but this didn't scare us at all. You're never going to be far from a supermarket. In fact, it will be good for footfall."
