Demand drives Champagne Philipponnat to announce allocation only

Published:  15 March, 2012

For the first time in its 490 year history, Champagne Philipponnat has announced allocation only sales for its Clos des Goisses.

According to the Champagne house, despite the global economic downturn, demand for its 2002 vintage of the single vineyard - Clos des Goisses (rrp ££180.99) - has been so high that volumes have had to be defined for each of the 24 markets where it is available.

In addition to the UK and US, it includes markets in Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Brazil, Finland and Russia.

The 2002 vintage - of which around 1,000 nine-litre cases were made - is aimed at connoisseurs who understand the grand Champagne's ageing ability.

Clos des Goisses 2002 can reasonably expect to be drinking well in the next 40 to 50 years, and the house recommends not opening it before five years.

Champagne Philipponnat Clos de Goisses 2002 is distributed by UK agent, Les Caves de Pyrène.
