WSET launches front-of-house qualifications

Published:  30 June, 2011

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust, WSET have launched two new qualifications for employees in the hospitality front-of-house sector.

The specifically created qualifications include: The Level 1 Award in Wine Service which is an introduction to the wine service profession and includes the development of practical skills.

The Level 2 Award in Professional Wine Service is being piloted in five countries in the second half of 2012 and is aimed at those candidates wishing to progress from the Level 1, and who have already received the Level 2 WSET Intermediate Certificate in Wines & Spirits.

Level 1 completed its pilot stage earlier in 2011 and has included 'trainees' from BBC 1's Michel Roux's Service programme among its earlier students.

Antony Moss MW, WSET's research and development director said: "We were aware of the requirement for a specific service element to be made available through research and feedback from our existing and potential customer base.

"This was further confirmed while working on my Master of Wine thesis which showed a very definite need for people to have easier access to training for front of house service."
