Brandia International has developed a €5-million international promotional campaign for Vinho Verde, following a boom in global exports.
Partly financed by the EU/IFAP, the campaign will run over the next three years in the region's main export markets; the USA, Germany, Canada, Brazil, Switzerland, Norway and the UK, which saw exports increase by 11% in 2008-2010.
It will begin on July 12, in the UK with 'The Boys are Back in Town' tasting focussing on 14 of the top Vinho Verde producers from the region.
A seminar will be hosted by Jamie Goode showcasing some of the region's top wines.
Manuel Pinheiro, executive president of Comissão de Viticultura da Região dos Vinhos Verdes, CVRVV, says: "This major global campaign will capitalise on the growing demand for our wines, which are in line with current consumer trends for wines that are lighter in style and lower in alcohol."
"We are also aiming to change the perception of our region to demonstrate that as well as white wines we produce vivacious sparkling, powerful reds and delicate rosés and wines that are potential agers in some cases, and wines for all seasons."
The tasting will take place at 10.00am to 4.00pm at the Sugar Quay in London.
