Errazuriz launches new Chilean region

Published:  05 February, 2009

Viña Errazuriz has launched its first wine from Chile's new Aconcagua Costa region.

Aconcagua Costa Sauvignon Blanc Single Vineyard 2008 is produced with fruit grown in this previously uncultivated area of the Valle de Aconcagua, located 14km inland from the Pacific Ocean, and 60km west of Errazuriz's Don Maximiano estate and winery.

The 1,100 hectares were first planted with vines in 2005. The distribution of varietals includes 60.1ha of Sauvignon Blanc, 28.5ha of Chardonnay, 23.7ha of Pinot Noir, 4.1ha of Merlot and 2.4ha of Shiraz.

Errazuriz believes the region is capable of producing world-class reds, as well as cooler climate whites. Temperatures are said to be similar to Marlborough in New Zealand.

The new wine represents the first vintage from the Errazuriz Manzanar vineyard within Aconcagua Costa. The wine is due in the UK in early spring and will be available to the trade through UK agent Hatch Mansfield. Errazuriz bills the wine as its top Sauvignon Blanc.
