Industry fights back with website

Published:  06 February, 2009

An industry-wide initiative to improve the media image of pub culture across the UK has been launched online.

The new website - www.pubaid.com - aims to promote the charitable work of pubs across the country to help offset negative reports in the press focusing on anti-social behaviour.

The architects of the initiative say that it has the backing of trade associations and many of the industry's heavyweights.

The website encourages pubs to upload details of their charity work and allow local and national newspapers access to their positive stories.

"All we are aiming to do is put the fantastic goodwill, which many thousands of licensees and their customers do every day, on the map for all to see," said a Pub Aid spokesman.

"We are building a prize pot to reward various pubs, such as the most innovative fundraising ideas or the highest money raised."

"The great thing about PubAid is that it is not costing the pub a penny - all we are asking every single pub to do is register what they are doing, how they are doing it and what they aim to raise during the coming year.

"Over the coming weeks we will be adding sample press releases for licenses to download and use to send to their local newspapers - again there will be absolutely no charge for this."

PubAid will be adding press release templates, posters and other free downloadable materials in the coming weeks. You can register your pub at www.pubaid.com.
