80 new lines for Somerfield

Published:  23 July, 2008

Somerfield is preparing to launch 80 new wines. The major multiple launched a half-price wine sale last month, and this will continue while stocks of the wines to be phased out remain on the shelves.

In recent weeks, consumers have been able to buy 1999 Jacquart Champagne for 7.49; Warre's Otima 10 for 5.45; and Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Sparkling Shiraz for 1.99.

Category buyer Angela Mount told Harpers: We've done a lot of customer research, and the clear message we got was that customers wanted less clutter, and a slightly tighter range.

When you're bringing in a new range, you can either let them trickle through, or you have to effectively move the old stuff through.' Around 100 wines will be delisted to accommodate the new range.
