Red Squirrel has hired wine educator and former sommelier Clara Rubin to the newly created role of head of engagement.
In her new role, Rubin will be responsible for creating a new in-house education programme and running training for the importer’s client base of restaurants and independent wine merchants around the UK.
Rubin joins from Berkmann Wine Cellars where she spent the past four years as national training manager and created the Veraison training programme. Prior to this, she was assistant head sommelier at Home House, having started her hospitality career as a hostess at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, following the well-trodden path into wine that is Majestic.
Welcoming Rubin to the team, company founder Nik Darlington said: “We know how valuable education and general training is for our clients and their staff, whether in indies or restaurants, bars or pubs, and with so much great wine out there at the moment and wine drinkers being more and more inquisitive and adventurous, that education and training is only becoming more important.”
The latest appointment follows the arrival of Miranda Fong who recently joined Red Squirrel as a buyer.
Founded in London in 2012, Red Squirrel imports native and alternative wines from Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria, Australia, South Africa, Canada and Turkey.
