Bolney Wine Estate has bolstered its sparkling wine portfolio with two new varieties as home-grown fizz continues to gain traction.
The duo, available now, comprises Classic Cuvée – a blend made predominantly from Chardonnay grapes mixed with Pinot Noir & Pinot Menuier (rsp: £28.99), and Blanc de Noirs, which leads with Pinot Noir grape and 5% Pinot Meunier (rsp: £32.99).
A 2013 vintage, the Cuvée is described as combines floral and brioche notes with zesty apple and citrus fruit and was ideal served as an aperitif or with fish, said the Sussex-based winery.
Made in the same traditional bottle-fermented method as Champagne to create a premium quality wine, the 2015 vintage Blanc de Noirs has a stone fruit character with notes of honey and pear, including a good balance of sweetness and acidity.
The latest varieties to join Bolney’s growing portfolio formed part of the Bolney’s strategy to “constantly produce new and unique” varieties of wine, said Sam Linter, managing director and head winemaker.
“We are very proud to add the Classic Cuvée and Blanc de Noirs to our collection, both perfect for autumn and Christmas.”
English sparkling wine have gained international recognition over the past few years, leading to a trophy cabinet bursting with awards and attracting Champagne houses, such as Taittinger and Pommery, to invest in English vineyards.
