Australia's Four Pillars distillery has collaborated with the Santamania Destileria Urbana in Madrid on a new limited edition release.
Cousin Vera's Gin is a marriage of Australian and Spanish botanicals and is the result of a visit from Four Pillar's founder and distiller Cameron Mackenzie to Santamania in September 2015.
It is named for Santamania's CARL copper-pot still, where the new gin was distilled, which is a similar in design to Four Pillar's Wilma.
Cousin Vera's Gin is described by Four Pillars as a Yarra-style Spanish gin, with bright and savoury aromatics and a slight citrus spike.
It uses a Tempranillo grape spirit base and has an abv of 42.8%.
Botanicals used in its creation include Cornicabra olives, rosemary, coriander and almond.
Contact between the two distilleries was initiated by Santamania's Javier Dominguez, who apporached Four Pillars when it first launched.
Both distilleries focus on artisanal small-batch production.
Four Pillars is based in the Yarra Valley, Victoria. Its first release of Rare Dry Gin hit the market in December 2013 after a crowd-funding initiative had raised some £15,000.
Other releases from the distillery include Modern Australian Gin and Spiced Negroni Gin in its Bartenders Series and a Navy Strength Gin at 58.8% abv.
Cousin Vera's Gin is the seventh gin from Four Pillars and the first in its Distillers Series.
Premium gins in the Santamania range include its London Dry Gin, London Dry Gin Reserva, and Gin Lola & Vera.
Cousin Vera's Gin is currently available online from Four Pillars here.
