Drinks trade charity The Benevolent has been presented with a cheque for £32,704 after a cycling fundraiser through the wine lands of southern France.

The Tour de l'Oc team of 15 wine trade members was led by Andrew Hawes, managing director of Mentzendorff and included Gordon Ramsay Holdings boss Stuart Gillies, Simon Tester from the Champagne Co and Ian Harris, chief executive of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust.

The cyclists covered 400km on the tour, starting from the M Chapoutier winery in Tain l'Hermitage and ending at Collioure near the Spanish border.

The Benevolent chief executive David Cox was presented with the cheque by Hawes and other members of the team at a ceremony in London.

The fundraising effort beat its target of £30,000.
