Bruichladdich stars for Rémy Cointreau as sales almost double

Published:  17 June, 2015

Islay's Bruichladdich distillery almost doubled sales in the year to March according to latest financial results from its parent Rémy Cointreau group.

The Paris-based drinks group said the success was "thanks to the growing contribution of its single malt Scotch whisky brands and The Botanist gin within the Rémy Cointreau network".

Rémy paid £58 million to buy Bruichladdich from private owners in 2012.

The whisky producer forms part of Rémy's liqueurs and spirits division which saw 7.2% growth in sales as a whole in the same period. Mount Gay rum was also singled out by the company as a star performer within the division.

The Rémy Martin Cognac division saw a 1.9% sales decline over the year which the group said was because of "destocking efforts" in China. The US market saw strong growth and is now Remy Martin's leading global market.

Remy said that operating profit of €156 million represented organic growth of 13.5% for the year and was in line with targets set a year ago.
