YVON MAU BUYS CHATEAU BROWN

Published:  23 July, 2008

Bordeaux ngociant Yvon Mau has bought Chteau Brown in Pessac-Lognan, one of the oldest chteaux in the region. The total cost of the deal has not been disclosed, but Richard Bampfield MW, who works as a freelance consultant for Yvon Mau, told Harpers that it is not planned to change the day-to-day running of the company in any way. He added that no full-time staff at Chteau Brown would be made redundant, only that one of the part-time consultants would not be kept on. Jean-Christophe Mau, the current manager of Yvon Mau-owned Chteau Preuillac, in the Mdoc, is to take over as manager at Chteau Brown, with the objectives of improving production in quality and commercial terms and developing the reputation and image of the chteau'. The purchase means that Chteau Brown is now in the hands of the Mau and the Dirkzwager families - the latter being a partner at Chteau Preuillac - with Brown's previous owners, the Barthe family, retaining a stake.
