Spain's Ribera del Duero wine region is looking to raise its profile in the UK with the launch of its first promotional campaign in this country.
The region is the second biggest selling denomination in Spain, behind Rioja, and is aiming to build on that in the UK market.

The campaign will include press and buyer trips to the region, a London trade tasting on October 16 and a series of masterclasses for wine store staff in London, Edinburgh and Leeds. The five members of the Wine Gang - Tom Cannavan, Joanna Simon, Jane Parkinson, David Williams and Anthony Rose - will visit the region in September to select their top wines. The gang will also help steer the direction of the campaign as well as shortlist wines to show to consumers.
Enrique Pascual García, president of the Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen de Ribera del Duero said: "Collectively the wineries recognise the need to develop the UK market where consumption of Spanish wine is rising. This campaign is the start of a long term plan to broaden the market for Ribera del Duero. Our campaign will support wineries already exporting to the UK as well as those looking for distributors."
Ribera del Duero became a Denomination of Origin in 1982. It is located in the plateau between Valladolid and Aranda, at an altitude of 600m. The region has 280 wineries.
