The world's best mixologist will be unveiled this week as 47 of the very best cocktail shakers and makers gather in the UK for the sixth annual Diageo Reserve World Class global final 2014.

Gleneagles, the luxury hotel resort in Scotland, is the venue for the first round of the competition today which will see the finalists take part in five days of different challenges to test their mixology skills.

Just to get to the final is some achievement for the mixologists who have been competing in regional events around the world. They will now be put through their paces overseen by leading cocktail figures including Dale DeGroff, Salvatore Calabrese, Peter Dorelli, Daniel Estremadoyro, Steve Olson, Gaz Regan, Julie Reiner and Hidetsugu Ueno.

The first day of competition will see the finalists assessed for their knowledge of whisky, blends and malts. Later in the week they will be assessed for their ability to make a classic Martini, be tested working behind the bar of a top London hotel, take a written examination and be asked to make cocktails in a series of speed trials.

To coincide with the cocktail final, Diageo is also opening this week its World Class House in Fitzroy Square, London, where it will be showcasing the very best cocktail talent around the world with special events, tastings and masterclasses featuring previous World Class winners David Rios, Tim Phillips, Manabu Ohtake, Erik Lorincz and Aristolelis Papadopoulos.

Matteo Fantacchiotti, global vice president commercial for Diageo Reserve said of the competition: "We're set for five truly memorable days of competition and unforgettable drinks. We wish every one of the finalists the very best of luck."
