Wines of Germany is holding its first generic trade tasting in the UK for five years on the back of the Riesling & Co world tour visit to the UK.
The tasting, which will be held at the Delfina Gallery in London on May 11, will see 25 established and up-and-coming producers attending from wineries including Dönnhoff, Schloss Schönborn and Dr Thanisch, to present their top quality Rieslings, Spätburgunders (Pinot Noir) and Grauburgunders (Pinot Gris), including some from the new 2010 vintage.
There will also be a showcase table, showing a selection of German wines available on the High Street, from major retailers and independent merchants alike.
Preceding the tasting there will be a German Wine 'Question Time', where a select audience will get the opportunity quiz a panel of industry experts - including Marks and Spencer's BWS category manager Andrew Bird, Hakkasan Group wine buyer Christine Parkinson and Richard Halstead from Wine Intelligence - about the future of German wine in the UK market.
Wines of Germany's UK managing director, Nicky Forrest, said: "After five years away, we're excited to be welcoming the Riesling & Co tour to the UK this year - it's a great opportunity for us to show the trade the progress German winemakers have made in making their wines more consumer-friendly in recent years and it's a great platform for up-and-coming producers looking to break into the UK market.
"We believe the 'Question Time' concept will bring a fresh approach to debate in the wine trade and hopefully, it will provide the audience with useful insight into how Germany can progress in the UK market moving forwards."
A consumer tasting will also be held on the evening of the 11th May at the WSET offices, with Steffen Schindler of the German Wine Institute hosting and leading attendees through a tasting of wines from Germany's 'Generation Riesling' producers.
