Matthew Jukes hosted a consumer wine tasting session promoting the merits of Australian wines and news that the 2010 vintage is going to be "one to remember".

This year's Australialive event reached over 300 people, at Atrium at Westfield, London, on September 15. Jukes showcased the '100 Best Australian wines' tasting, launched his latest book and encouraged Londoners to discover the quality and diversity of Australian wines.

Celebrating this year's vintage, Australialive said winemakers have highlighted the elegance of its wines, citing lower alcohol levels and great balance.

At an estimated 1.53 million tonnes, the vintage represents a drop of around 300,000 tonnes, reflecting a desire by wineries to match supply and demand levels in both domestic and international markets.

Philip Laffer, group chief winemaker for Orlando Wines, said the 2010 vintage was
"exceptional". He added: "There was lot of pressure put on growers to keep their crops down,
to keep quality up. That worked well and we had marvellous weather conditions."

Paul Smith, winemaker at McLaren Vale winery, Wirra Wirra said: "If I could dial one up I'd take a 2010 vintage every year."
