Jacob's Creek is the highest placed wine in the new Superbrands list, published by the research organisation of the same name this week.

The Pernod Ricard brand appears at number 168 on the list of 500 brands, judged by a panel of experts and consumers on criteria including quality, reliability and distinction.

Brown-Forman's Jack Daniel's is the highest ranked spirit at number 76, five places above Gordon's, one of five Diageo spirits brands to feature.

Diageo-owned Guinness is the top scoring beer and highest alcoholic drinks brand overall, missing out by just one place on a top 30 ranking.

The best-placed Scotch whisky is Glenfiddich, at number 126, with Smirnoff the leading vodka at number 84.

Stella Artois, Baileys. Bacardi, Southern Comfort and Famous Grouse all appeared in the top 200 overall Superbrands.

Hardy's, Lindemans, Blossom Hill, Gallo and Wolf Blass scored top 500 places for the wine category.

Among other notable entries among 35 alcoholic drinks brands in the top 500 were Magners cider at 390 and old favourite Martini at 286.

Johnnie Walker ranked 30 places higher than Bell's despite being easily outsold by its Diageo stablemate in the UK market.

Microsoft, Rolex and Google occupied the top three places in the overall list which recognises a Superbrand as one that has "established the finest reputation in its field" and which offers "significant emotional and/or tangible advantages over its competitors which consumers (consciously or sub-consciously) want and recognise".
