Wine Society takes national retailer award

The Wine Society took the Portuguese national retailer award at last night's Portuguese wine awards dinner.

Restaurant chain Nandos won the restaurant award and Portuguese wine promotions are planned with ViniPortugal in 2008.

Michael Plummer, wine buyer for Nandos, said: "We are all delighted to have received this award. We have worked hard with our suppliers to select and produce what we believe to be an unrivalled selection of Portuguese wines. We'd like to thank ViniPortugal and all of our suppliers for their commitment and support."

Jamie Goode, Daily Mail and Harpers columnist was named journalist of the year which means he will select the 50 Great Portuguese wine for 2009.

Tanners beat off Adnams to win the independent retailer of the year.
