Prices for Burgundy may have softened slightly at the annual Hospices de Beaune auction two weeks ago, but those for the top white wines of one of the region's most highly-rated producers, Jean-Franois Coche, entered the stratosphere at Sotheby's London sale of fine and rare wines on 21 November. A dozen bottles of Domaine Coche-Dury 1992 Corton-Charlemagne, with an estimate of 4,000-5,000, sold to a private collector for 30,800 - almost three times the price realised for a dozen bottles of 1990 Chteau Ptrus (10,450). A dozen bottles of the 1997 vintage, with an estimate of 2,600-3,800, fetched 25,300. Serena Sutcliffe MW, head of the International Wine Department, said: The Coche-Dury section of the sale exceeded all expectations in spectacular fashion, confirming this Burgundian's cult status. Bidding was international and fast and furious.'
