Wine Stars Awards opens up to host of new countries

Published:  15 March, 2019

Harpers Wine Stars Awards is inviting entries from Germany, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and Lebanon, to join established category England and Wales, at the next round of judging this Spring, with the entry deadline on 16 April.

As with all Wine Stars Awards entrants, the wines of these new countries will be judged 'by buyers for buyers', first assessed blind for quality, with additional marks then awarded for value at the price, plus packaging/design.

The addition of the new countries follows the successful establishment of Wine Stars Awards over the past two years, being the first competition to judge wines “holistically” – as buyers themselves approach buying wines.

The rational behind Harpers Wine Stars Awards is that our judges – buyers all - make their purchasing decisions based on the whole product offering and the judging format of Harpers Wine Stars is designed specifically to reflect that.

This is why Harpers Wine Stars stands out as the most practical tasting competition out there, reflecting how UK wine buyers buy.

This year will also see the inclusion for the first time of further new countries including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia.

France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil and England and Wales have already become regular fixtures in the annual Wine Stars Awards judging calendar.

In addition, England Wine Stars will have their results announced in the Drinks Britannia section of London Wine Fair this year, while the highest scoring England Wine Stars wines will go on to be included on to feature on a Wine Stars table at Harpers’ SITT Autumn tastings in both London and Manchester.
