Armit adds Terroir Sense Fronteres to portfolio

Published:  21 January, 2019

Armit Wines has added Terroir Sense Fronteres from Montsant to its portfolio.

The London wine merchant will initially be listing three wines from the producer - a white and two reds, with the offering set to grow in the future.

The debut 2017 vintage is available from Armit now and comprises Brisat - 75% Grenache Blanc, 25% Macabeo (rrp: £23), Negre - 75% Grenache, 25% Carignan (rrp: £23), and Vèrtebra de la Figuera – a 100% Grenache (rrp: £36).

The opportunity to work with winemaker Dominik Huber’s new releases from Monsant was a “significant” opportunity, said Armit Wines.

“We are very proud to welcome Terroir Sense Fronteres to our portfolio. Knowing Dominik’s wines from Priorat, the opportunity to work with his new releases from Monsant was not one to miss. His Grenache wines are very energetic, refined, and elegant. Whole bunches, altitude, precise viticulture and winemaking are key to the quality of his range and his style, which is very on trend,” said sales director Susan Harper.

Terroir Sense Fronteres was established three years ago by winemaker Huber, who is known for his Priorat property Terroir al Limit.

Terroir Sense Fronteres began when Huber acquired a four-hectare plot in 2016 as part of another deal; this land sits in Montsant DO despite being just a few hundred metres down the road from his land in Priorat.

On his first visit, Huber discovered 75-year old Grenache vines planted in a natural amphitheatre of red clay and gypsum. Free from the tight regulations in Priorat, he set about producing modern, sensual wines with no oak.

All three wines are produced in a way that aligns with current trends. After harvesting early, Hubert relies exclusively on natural yeasts, using destemmed whole bunches. The wines are left to ferment naturally without any human intervention.
