New CIVL Languedoc president to focus on sustainability

Published:  16 November, 2018

The Languedoc’s interprofessional body has appointed Miren de Lorgeril as its new president, making her currently the only female president of an interprofession in France.

CEO and co-owner of family business Maison Lorgeril, Miren becomes president of the CIVL, the trade body in charge of promoting all Languedoc AOCs and IGPs Sud de France at home and abroad.

With a strong focus on sustainability, Miren de Lorgeril will look to the future to build on the existing projects winemakers in the region have been putting in place.

“Sustainability is going to be at the heart of what we do here, using the savoir-faire and innovative methods of our winemakers, we plan to develop the quality of the AOC and IGP wines of the Languedoc even further,” she said.

Languedoc Roussillon is the biggest organic wine region in Europe and with 32% of France’s organic vineyards located in the region.

Another regional environmental development is the creation of the Observatoire du Développement Durable, a sustainable development body, which provides a “space to enable everyone to share their ideas and innovations and also demonstrate all the activity which is taking place”, Lorgeril added.

Along with her four children and husband Nicolas de Lorgeril, Miren oversees six wineries and 300 hectares of vineyards.

The family also own and run Château de Pennautier which is the de Lorgeril family’s historical birth place and one of the oldest winemaking chateaux in France.
