The Botanist attempts world record gin tasting

Published:  08 February, 2016

Manchester-based bar chain The Botanist is hoping the host the world's biggest gin tasting this Thursday.

Some 100 people at each of the chain's nine venues nationwide will take part in the attempt.

Each participant will have to sample a flight of three gins from the event's sponsors, which include Tanquaray 10, Whitley Neill and Caorunn.

Tonic for the world record attempt is being supplied by Fever Tree.

Whether or not the attempt is successful, each bar will be celebrating afterwards with a gin party from 6.00pm.

Chris Hill, managing director of New World Trading Company, which owns The Botanist, told the Manchester Evening News: "We've already broken Guinness World Records title for ale tastings and for the largest collection of rums commercially available, so with the recent addition of our 'perfect serve' gins to our menus we only felt it right to follow this up with a gin-themed world record attempt."

The New World Trading Company also owns the Oast House in Manchester, The Smuggler's Cove in Liverpool, and London's The Trading House.

It was founded in 2011 by Tim Bacon, previously co-founder of the Living Ventures bar and restaurant group.

The New World Trading Company was named among the top 20 companies in The Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 league table last year.
