William Grant & Sons has announced the launch of two prestigious new releases from its Dufftown-based Kininvie Distillery.
The distillery was opened in 1990 by Janet Sheed Roberts, then aged 89, the last remaining granddaughter of William Grant.
Three casks from the first whisky laid to mature in the summer of 1990 have been selected for The Kininvie Special Release #1 'The First Drops'.
Only 550 bottles of the limited edition release will be on sale in the UK. Similar numbers of bottles will be made available to Taiwan and mainland Europe.
Brian Kinsman, malt master at William Grant & Sons, said: "The whisky produced at the Kininvie distillery is of exceptionally good quality. After twenty-five years, we're delighted that the liquid is now ready and we can release the very first drops of Kininvie, straight from the casks where they have been maturing since the distillery's first days."
Craig Cranmer, Kininvie's distillery manager, said: "Being family owned gives us the luxury of patience and means we are able to benefit from the foresight of earlier generations who decided to lay down casks to create exquisite aged stocks.
"We have cherished and nurtured these casks since 1990 knowing they contained incredible whisky. Now the time is right to share the first drops of our history."
Each bottle displays the specific cask and bottle number and is accompanied by an individual certificate signed by Brian Kinsman.
Kininvie Special Release #1 'The First Drops' will be available in November.
It will retail at £400 and has an ABV of 61.4%.
William Grant & Sons is also releasing Kininvie 23 Years Old Batch No. 3.
Batch No 1 was launched exclusively in Taiwan in 2013. Batch No 2 followed in 2013 in the UK, USA and mainland Europe.
Both sold out completely on launch.
Batch No 3 will be available in mainland Europe, the UK, Taiwan and China.
Every bottle will display the year of distillation, batch number and individual bottle number.
Cranmer said: "The quality of Kininvie 23 Years Old Batch No. 3 is a result of our patience and devoted care. The popularity of the first two Kininvie 23 Years Old batches demonstrates the outstanding calibre of the whisky we are producing at the Kininvie distillery."
The Kininvie 23 Years Old Batch No. 3 has an ABV of 42.6%. It will retail at £120.
