Alliance Wine buys Rhone to Rioja importer

Published:  15 January, 2015

Alliance Wine has bought specialist wine importer Rhone to Rioja, adding seven new Spanish agencies to its portfolio.

The Scottish-based supplier also welcomes Rhone to Rioja owner Paul Shinnie to its team as Spanish wine buyer, as part of the deal. The purchase price was not disclosed.

The new agencies are Pazo de Señorans, Equipo Navazos, Celler de Capçanes, Abel Mendoza, Alemany I Corrio, Bodegas Contreras Ruiz and Bodegas Oller del Mas.

Alliance Wine's managing director Fergal Tynan, said: "We are delighted to have expanded our portfolio with some really interesting wines and producers and to have Paul on board as part of the buying team. These really are wines to shout about, from the incredible and complex premium Albariños from Pazo de Señorans to the award winning single cask bottlings of premium sherries selected from the best producers in Jerez by Equipo Navazos, and we look forward to representing them in the UK."

Shinnie added: "I am very happy to have moved over to Alliance and to have the opportunity to continue to grow sales for these producers in both the on and off trade. The already extensive Spanish portfolio at Alliance is full of respected producers and exciting wines and I look forward to continuing to grow it.'

The combined list of wines will be available to both the on and off trade from February 2015, and will be launched at the firm's upcoming tastings in Edinburgh on February 2 and in London on February 4.
