The Champagne region as a whole saw volumes increase 1.4% for H1 2014, as it shipped 110 million bottles in that period. Exports to Europe and the rest of the world were up 6.9% on 2013, while the domestic market fell by 3.1%, according to the CIVC.
In total, Canard-Duchêne shipped 1,672,000 bottles between January and July 2014, saw its French sales grow 5.4% in the off-trade. The brand market its position as the number two in France with a market share of 5.8%, according to IRI. French on-trade shipments have grown 16% year on year.
Canard-Duchêne's exports outside France increased by 17%, with top performances from the UK, USA and Australia.
The brand says it is "continuing to build on this success" to further expand its international footprint, reinforcing its presence in selected channels, and providing support in large retailers.
Canard-Duchêne, located in the Montagne de Reims, has been making Champagne since 1868, and is now distributed in over 50 countries.
Sparkling wine is currently in the ascendancy, at least in the UK market, with Kantar WorldPanel confirming it as the fast-growing alcohol category in Great Britain. Sales grew 14.8% in the past year while consumers are trading up from cava to Prosecco and Prosecco to Champagne. Prosecco sales have grown by almost 75% in the last year, Kantar says.
